Join the LAC+USC Medical Center Foundation in honoring our Hospital Hero, Sandra Shells, an ER nurse who dedicated 38 years to LAC+USC Medical Center. Ms. Shells will forever be remembered for her compassionate care and unmatched dedication to her patients and her community.


In her honor, the LAC+USC Medical Center Foundation has established the Sandra Shells Memorial Fund to help her family during this difficult time and assist other families affected by, or have fallen victim to, violence.

LAC+USC Medical Center Foundation – The Foundation supports the LAC+USC Medical Center to ensure its status as a leader in health and medicine, community care, education and research. The Medical Center is one of the largest public hospitals in the country, providing full spectrum emergency, inpatient, and outpatient services from its campus in Boyle Heights to more than 200,000 patients a year.


The Foundation supports the Medical Center through fund development, public service, community leadership, and patient care and education, achieved through coordinated commitment from funders, community partners, residents and stakeholders to benefit the Medical Center campus and the community it serves.

 

The Wellness Center at the Historic General Hospital – The Wellness Center is the LAC+USC Medical Center Foundation’s flagship program mission of The Wellness Center is to inspire and empower residents and patients to take control of their own health and well-being by providing culturally sensitive wellness and prevention services and resources that enable prevention, address the root cause of disease and improve health outcomes. 


The Wellness Center is a communal space for the community and patients, a way to connect patients to wellness care, and a safe space to play and exercise outdoors. Fitness trail, walking path and age appropriate play and equipment provides opportunities for physical activity and community building. Services ranging from computer literacy classes to job search assistance are offered through various partners. The Wellness Center is a place that serves a community in need and is re-conceptualizing health and wellness.


LAC+USC Arts Council Fund – The LAC+USC Arts Council maintains and curates donated art to create peaceful, healing, comforting and inspirational spaces throughout the Medical Center. Donations to this fund will support the maintenance, repair and/or cleaning of the art pieces. 

 

LAC+USC Facilities Fund – The Facilities Fund provides support for the Facilities team members including service recognition and professional development.

LAC+USC Hospital Heroes Fund - Our Hospital Heroes are on the front lines of the fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19) and with support from you, we can make sure they have:

  • Mental health support services and resources

  • Wellness programs and resources

  • Support for ongoing recruitment efforts to get the best medical personnel for our community

 

LAC Alternatives to Incarceration Fund – Donations to the LAC Alternatives to Incarceration (ATI) Fund will support activities and programming to support the County’s Alternatives to Incarceration Initiative which aims to support people before they even come into contact with the criminal justice system and divert them from the wrong path. The ATI also focuses on supporting those within the criminal justice system to ensure better outcomes for individuals and communities.  The ATI is working to identify critical gaps in service to disrupt the cyclical elements that lead people to a downward trajectory through the criminal justice system.

 

LAC Diabetes Coalition Fund - The Goal of the coalition is to expand access and participation in the National Diabetes Prevention Program (National DPP) and Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) programs. The coalition brings together key stakeholders in diabetes prevention who have been working towards reducing diabetes prevalence. The coalition consists of more than 50 organizations from various sectors, including Health System Partners, Community-Based Organizations, Local National Diabetes Prevention Program (National DPP) providers, Academic Partners, Health Sector Practitioners, Health Plans and Non-profit Organizations.

 

Our Vision is that every Los Angeles County resident has access to high quality diabetes prevention, management, and supportive services.  Our Mission is to foster a network of sustainable programs that support Los Angeles County residents' health, particularly among high-risk populations, by helping them prevent and manage diabetes.
